Dear Members of the Lehigh Community,
In 2020, as part of Lehigh's commitment to examining our policies and practices for bias and seeking to improve equal and inclusive opportunities for our diverse community, including all students, faculty, and staff, we committed to undertaking a study of the Lehigh University Police Department (LUPD). The LUPD Review Committee (LUPDRC) completed this review to advise Lehigh’s administration on the ways in which relationships between the LUPD and our community can be strengthened, resulting in this report and set of recommendations.
We are grateful to the members of the LUPDRC, who worked diligently and passionately to understand the dynamics, environment, and existing programs and policies, and to offer recommendations to address shortcomings and move us forward on the path to improving equity, diversity and inclusion. We also extend our gratitude to all those who participated and continue to participate in the LUPDRC’s survey and small group discussions, as their work is not possible without these community members.
We reiterate our commitment to actively speaking out and addressing all acts of racism, including racist practices, policies and procedures. As always, we encourage all members of our community to continue to engage in the important work of making Lehigh a stronger and more inclusive institution.
With thanks,
Nathan Urban, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Donald Outing, Vice President of Equity and Community
Pat Johnson, Vice President of Finance and Administration
Yenny Anderson, Vice Provost for Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics
