The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Lehigh Valley. Current projections now indicate a major winter storm with heavy snow and high winds forecasted to impact the Bethlehem area beginning today, February 22. Lehigh University is actively preparing for these changing conditions to ensure our campus remains safe and operational.
What to Expect and How to Prepare
University Schedule
A decision regarding Monday’s class and work schedule will be shared later today. If leaving campus, consider taking any materials needed to work or learn remotely should it become necessary.
Dining
Preparations are underway to provide dining options to campus throughout the duration of the storm. If there are any closures, delayed openings, or service adjustments to campus dining locations, the most up-to-date information will be shared on dining services social media. We encourage you to check frequently for the latest updates:

Transportation and Parking
Bus routes will operate according to regular schedules for as long as possible. Interruptions or changes in schedules will be communicated as they occur. Check the GoLehigh Transit app for real-time tracking, schedules and route maps.
Please park in your designated areas. Snow emergency regulations will go into effect as of 6:00 PM tonight. All vehicles must be removed from faculty and staff surface lots on the Asa Packer campus by 6:00 PM.
After the storm, we appreciate your cooperation in moving vehicles promptly to allow our plowing crews to clear lots safely. For those living off campus, it is expected that snow emergency routes may be implemented. Please stay aware and follow the direction of local authorities.
Possible Power Outages
While significant ice is not currently in the forecast, winter storms can occasionally cause power disruptions. Should an outage occur, the university and local community may experience the same challenges. We encourage students living on and off campus to prepare to stay warm, including having on hand extra blankets, warm clothes, and taking steps to conserve heat in your house or room. Remember to keep your electronic devices fully charged.
Safety Steps to Consider
As we navigate the upcoming winter weather, we encourage all members of the Lehigh community to take proactive steps to stay safe and prepared. Please remember to carry your essentials, such as keys and IDs, as lockout response times may be longer than usual during the storm. We also recommend securing your living or lab space to conserve heat, keeping electronic devices fully charged, and gathering a 3-5 day supply of essential medicines and non-perishable snacks. For a complete list of safety recommendations—including tips for pet care, commuting safely in freezing temperatures, and lab-specific checklists—please visit our Winter Weather Information page.
Lehigh University Police and Campus Safety
The Lehigh University Police Department (LUPD) remains fully operational and available to support our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether you are navigating campus in the snow or need assistance with a weather-related safety concern, LUPD officers are here to help.
For any emergency, please call (610) 758-4200 or contact us via the HawkWatch app. For non-emergency assistance or general safety questions, you may also reach the department at the same number or visit their headquarters at 321 E. Packer Avenue. We encourage everyone to stay connected and report any hazardous conditions or safety needs immediately.
