Centennial School Memories
I did my practicum at Centennial School in the fall of 1970 and then returned as an [English Language Arts] teacher in September 1971 through June 1973. … We were located first just off campus in what was formerly a house, then in the basement of the former First Baptist Church on Broad Street, and finally in a newly constructed building on the Goodman Campus. Most of us lacked any special education training, but the staff was student-centered and very willing to innovate. Working with the students at Centennial influenced my entire teaching career in an extremely positive way. I still have fond memories of my time there.
