Rossin College bioengineering major Linxi (Poplar) Yang ’22 took top honors at the David and Loraine Freed Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 6 in Lehigh’s STEPS building. Yang presented her research on “Machine Learning Cell Type Classification for Cancer Diagnosis” to a panel of distinguished judges to earn a $2,000 conference travel scholarship.

During the daylong symposium, students from Lehigh University and Lafayette College presented their engineering research in a wide range of topics and competed for scholarships to attend professional conferences. The event highlighted research achievement and group collaboration, celebrated experiential learning, and encouraged students to use research to develop critical thinking skills and increase their ability to succeed professionally.

Other Lehigh students who were recognized at the event include computer engineering major Alexis Soulias ’23, who placed third with “Smart Underwater Sensors and Wireless Communication,” and bioengineer Anna Edmundson ’23 who received an honorable mention.
