Jessica Condolo Hubsch ’18G Awarded Fulbright Scholarship

In that role, Hubsch will serve as a cultural ambassador for the United States, assist with university-level English language education in Portugal and provide educational advising to Portuguese students interested in studying in the U.S. She will begin her work in fall 2019 and continue to June 2020.

“I was actually at work when I received the news,” said Hubsch, programs manager for the Lehigh-United Nations Partnership. “I opened the email and I went into a kind of shock. I kept rereading the words, ‘I am pleased to congratulate you…’ because I couldn’t believe it was true. I’m very excited to start this new adventure… This is going to be an amazing opportunity for me and for my career in international education.”

Bill Hunter, director of Fellowship Advising and UN Programs at Lehigh, said Hubsch’s area of graduate study at Lehigh and her service with the Lehigh-UN Partnership have made her “a global-ready graduate.” He said, “Applying for a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship was a natural progression, and we are delighted that her application was successful. She's ready to take on global challenges, and I look forward to watching her exciting career unfold."

Hubsch said she came to Lehigh to pursue her master’s degree from the College of Education to gain practical knowledge of the effects of culture and globalization on education and to develop a theoretical basis with which to better understand systems of education. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English with minors in education and sustainability from Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia.

“My end goal was to become an international student advisor for college students, but I am open-minded because the combination of my experiences and my education at Lehigh has prepared me to take on a variety of roles within international education,” she said.

As a graduate student at Lehigh, Hubsch was a member of the UNICEF Club and served as its social media coordinator for a semester. She was one of Lehigh’s UN Youth Representatives, which led to her co-organize the “Students Seeking Solutions: SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation Conference” at the UN in 2018.

As programs manager for the Lehigh-UN Partnership, she manages the Youth Representative Program. She helped to organize the International Labor Organization’s 100th Anniversary Conference, “An Equitable and Sustainable Future of Work,” at Lehigh.

Hubsch also works as an area representative for ASSE (American Scandinavian Student Exchange) International Student Exchange Programs. In that position, she serves as liaison among host families, schools and high school exchange students, and she advises high school students studying abroad.
