Sharpton to give Martin Luther King Day speech

The Rev. Al Sharpton will be the keynote speaker at Lehigh’s Dr. Martin Luther King Day Celebration at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 in Baker Hall.
Sharpton is one of the most visible black leaders in the world today. A dynamic speaker on civil rights issues for nearly two decades, Sharpton ran for the Democratic Party’s nomination for U.S. Senator from New York in 1992 and also made an unsuccessful bid to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States in 2004.
Sharpton’s speech at Baker Hall, which is free and open to the public, will address King’s work, his legacy, and how those in attendance can live King’s dream.
His talk is sponsored by the MLK Celebration Planning Committee, the Visiting Lecture Series Committee, the Chaplain's Office, Africana Studies, Multicultural Affairs and the Joint Multicultural Program
The Sharpton speech is one of many Martin Luther King Day Celebration events scheduled at Lehigh. Others will include a faculty roundtable discussion of King's 1967 Beyond Vietnam speech and an interfaith breakfast. For details, see related article.
