Gast travels to Azerbaijan as U.S. science envoy

Lehigh President Alice P. Gast is traveling to Azerbaijan in the Caucasus region this week in her role as U.S. science envoy.

Gast will identify areas for cooperation on energy, information technology, public-private partnerships, and education in meetings with senior government officials, ministers, and representatives from the scientific, education, nonprofit, and business communities, according to a U.S. Department of State release.

Gast was one of three new science envoys named by the State Department in September 2010. She is charged with encouraging U.S. global engagement in science and technology, and will advise the White House, the State Department and the U.S. scientific community about the knowledge and insights she gains from her travels and interactions as a private citizen.
