Branford Marsalis replaces Rollins

One of the most celebrated jazz musicians of the past 20 years, Grammy Award-winning tenor saxophonist Branford Marsalis has worked his magic on the stages of the world’s greatest jazz clubs and classical halls.
And now Marsalis brings his innovative spirit and broad musical scope to the Lehigh Valley, stepping in for fellow tenor sax great Sonny Rollins in Lehigh’s Guest Artist Series at Zoellner Arts Center’s Baker Hall at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 7.
Marsalis’ recording career as a bandleader encompasses 14 jazz albums and two classical albums under his own name, plus two Buckshot LeFonque pop releases. His latest recording, Eternal, is nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album. Contemporary Jazz, released in 2000, garnered the saxophonist’s third Grammy and captured what Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune described as “a new level of emotional intensity and instrumental brilliance.”
