Dear Members of the Lehigh Community,
I am writing to share the news that Jeremy L. Gibson has been selected as Lehigh’s new Murray H. Goodman Dean of Athletics, effective Jan. 31, 2025.
With more than 27 years of experience in college athletics, Jeremy brings an outstanding track record of leadership, innovation, and a deep commitment to student-athlete success. In his most recent role as Vice President for Athletics and Deputy Chief of Staff at Merrimack College, he successfully led the institution through its transition to NCAA Division I, expanded its athletic offerings, and secured numerous conference championships. Jeremy’s leadership also helped Merrimack earn national titles in track and field and men’s lacrosse, while significantly increasing both revenue and student-athlete academic achievements. His ability to balance competitive success with holistic student development aligns with our Lehigh values.
Prior to Merrimack, Jeremy served at Harvard University for 17 years in several roles including Senior Associate Director of Athletics, where he was instrumental to the fundraising efforts that generated over $100 million to support capital projects, operational enhancements and endowments. Jeremy also played a key role in elevating women's rugby to varsity status.
Jeremy is known for his extensive work in community engagement, diversity initiatives, and capital project development. His leadership in growing athletic programs and generating vital fundraising support will be instrumental in advancing Lehigh Athletics and continuing to build on its proud tradition.
I want to extend my gratitude to Nathan Urban, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, for chairing the search committee, and to the committee members for their dedicated service: Khayla Atte, Head Coach, Women's and Men's Track and Field; Allen Biddinger, Associate Athletics Director for Facilities and Events; Hannah Dailey, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, and NCAA faculty representative; and Carol Packard, Vice President, Development and Alumni Relations; as well as Lucy Bowen, Director of Administration, Provost Office, for providing administrative and logistical support to the committee. The firm Korn Ferry assisted with the search.
I want to acknowledge the Goodman family, whose endowment of this position has provided enduring support for our athletics program. This commitment reflects the remarkable legacy of Murray H. Goodman, whose recent passing reminds us of his profound impact on Lehigh and our community. I would also like to recognize Joe Sterrett, who has served with distinction as dean for many years. His leadership and dedication have been pivotal to the success of our athletic programs and the strength of our athletics community.
Jeremy’s vision and leadership will continue to elevate Lehigh Athletics, enriching the student-athlete experience and further reinforcing our commitment to academic excellence and community involvement.
Please join me in welcoming Jeremy and his family to Lehigh University. I look forward to the continued growth and success of our student-athletes and athletic programs under his leadership.
