Education and engineering colleges again among nation’s best

In its recently released 2013 survey of U.S. graduate schools, U.S. News & World Report has ranked the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science (RCEAS) 43rd out of 194 engineering colleges that grant doctoral degrees.

The RCEAS was also ranked 43rd in the 2012 issue.

Lehigh’s College of Education was ranked 46th out of 238 education colleges that the magazine surveyed. The education college was ranked 35th in the 2012 issue.

The rankings will appear in the magazine’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools for 2013” issue, which was posted online today and will be available on newsstands April 3.

S. David Wu, Dean and Iacocca Professor of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science, said he is pleased that the college’s research and graduate programs continue to be ranked among those of the top research universities in the nation.

“Engineering is key to innovation and economic competitiveness,” said Wu, “and research and graduate programs in engineering seed that innovation. Our focus on health and healthcare, energy and the environment, and infrastructure systems places Lehigh at the forefront of the national scene.

“To stay competitive, we must continue our efforts in recruiting and retaining talented people, creating innovative programs, and investing in state-of-the-art facilities.”

Gary Sasso, dean of the College of Education, noted that the college is consistently recognized among top tier institutions.

“Our college continues to provide leadership at the regional, national, international and policy levels,” said Sasso. “Our faculty and staff are among the best in the nation.”

Lehigh has also been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s outstanding research universities. The university was ranked 38th in the 2012 edition of the magazine’s “Best Colleges” edition, which was published in August 2011.
