Centennial School Announces 18th Annual 5K Run

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Centennial School, which is designed specifically to help children with emotional disabilities or autism. Registration for the race begins at 8:00 a.m. and the race starts at approximately 10:00 a.m.
Pre-registration is encouraged. An entry form and additional race details—including age categories, awards and prizes—can be found at the Centennial School’s Web site.
The Centennial School, a part of Lehigh’s College of Education, is regarded as one of the most effective day schools and teacher training centers in America. It has been recognized by the American Institutes for Research and the National Disability Rights Network for its innovative teaching methodologies and curriculum.
The entrance fees ($20 to run and an additional $5 for a t-shirt) are used to cover the school’s operational costs, as well as provide unique professional development programs for its graduate teachers. The school follows an apprenticeship approach to teacher training while funding full- and part-time graduate assistantships for students interested in special education, counseling and school counseling, and educational leadership.
Every year, the Centennial School welcomes 100 students from over 40 local school districts and intermediate units throughout eastern Pennsylvania. A hallmark of the program is its reliance on a system of positive behavior support; the Centennial School is one of the few alternative day-schools in the country that works with children and youth with emotional disturbance without the routine use of seclusion time-out and physical restraint.
