The Fazlur R. Khan Distinguished Lecture series presents an address by Masayoshi Nakashima ‘81 Ph.D., director of the National Research Institute for Earth Science at Kyoto University in Japan.

The event begins at 4:10 p.m. in Sinclair Auditorium. It is sponsored by the department of civil and environmental engineering and the department of art and architecture.

The department of mechanical engineering and mechanics presents an address by Alessandro Beghi, associate professor of control systems theory at the University of Padova in Italy.

Wednesday, Sept. 28: “Low Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: A Transformational Energy Conversion Technology”

The department of chemical engineering presents an address by Eric D. Wachsman, director of the University of Maryland Energy Research Center and William L. Crentz Centennial Chair in Energy Research in the department of materials science and engineering and the department of chemical engineering at the University of Maryland.

Wednesday, Sept. 28: “Thioamides: Minimalist Probes for Monitoring Protein Structure and Function”

The department of chemistry presents an address by E. James Petersson, assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania.

Thursday, Sept. 29: “Bionic Hearing: The Science and the Experience”

The department of physics presents an address by Ian Shipsey, the Julian Schwinger Distinguished Professor of Physics at Purdue University, on the social implications of cochlear implantation and the future of auditory prostheses.

The department of biological sciences presents a discussion by six alumnae of their careers since graduating from Lehigh.

The event begins at 4:10 p.m. in 102 Maginnes. It is part of the campus-wide celebration of the 40th anniversary of the admission of women undergraduate students to Lehigh.
