Friday, March 23: “Global Citizenship in Practice: A Crossroads between Education, Civil Society and Business”

The United Nations Academic Impact and Lehigh present a day of panel discussions and speeches on global citizenship and how it intersects with education, community service, health, conflict management and the media. Participants include Lehigh faculty and national and international experts.

The department of earth and environmental science presents an address by David Shuster, associate adjunct professor of earth and planetary science at the University of California-Berkeley.

The event begins at noon in STEPS 101.

Friday, March 23: “A Workshop for Ethical Scientists”

The Lehigh chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, and ADVANCE present a discussion led by Ginny McSwain, associate professor of physics.

The event begins at 4:10 p.m. in STEPS 101.

Friday, March 23: “Opportunities and Challenges for Infrastructure Monitoring”

The Fazlur R. Khan Distinguished Lecture Series presents an address by Sharon L. Wood, the Robert L. Parker Sr. Professor in Engineering and chair of the department of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.

The event begins at 4:30 in Sinclair Auditorium. It is sponsored by the department of civil and environmental engineering and the department of arts, architecture and design.

Monday, March 26: “Control Methods for Quadrotor Helicopters”

The Robotics Cluster presents an address by Daniel Mellinger of the GRASP (General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception) Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania. Mellinger is co-president of KMel Robotics.

The event begins at 4 p.m. in Room 416 of Packard Lab.

Monday, March 26: “Neither Europe nor Latin America: ‘Melting Pot’ Ideology in the World of Argentine Soccer, 1920-1930”

The Latin American Studies Program and the department of history present an address by Jeffrey Richey, a Ph.D. candidate in history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Latin American Studies pre-doctoral fellow at Lehigh.

The event begins at 4:10 p.m. in Room 101 of Maginnes Hall.

The Humanities Center presents addresses by artist Wafaa Bilal, journalist Paddy Woodworth, historian Juan Cole, philosopher Nancy Bauer, writer Carol Adams, writer Frances Moore Lappe, and writer Luis Alberto Urrea.

Thursday, March 29: “Thermal Interfaces for Aerospace Systems: Challenges and Materials Science”

The department of physics presents an address by Andrey A. Voevodin, principal research scientist and technology adviser for the Thermal Science and Materials Branch of the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The event begins at 4:10 p.m. in Room 316 of Lewis Lab.

Thursday-Friday, March 29-30: 18th Annual LVAIC Undergraduate Women Studies Conference

The Women’s Studies Coalition of the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges (LVAIC) presents a free public address by Kamila Alexander of the University of Pennsylvania at 7 p.m. Thursday in Sinclair Auditorium, and an art exhibit, poster and paper sessions by undergraduate students from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday on the third floor of the University Center.
