Friday, April 15: Rossin Induction Ceremony

The P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science will hold an induction ceremony to honor the 2011 Rossin Junior Fellows and Rossin Doctoral Fellows, and the new Rossin Professors.

The event begins at 3:30 p.m. in Packard Auditorium.

Tuesday, April 19: “The Objectives of Islamic Law and Modern Religious Reform”

The Center for Global Islamic Studies presents an address by Yasir Ibrahim, associate professor of philosophy and religion at Montclair State University in New Jersey.

The event begins at 4:15 p.m. in Maginnes Hall 102.

Wednesday, April 20: “Computational Endeavors in Solid State Chemistry”

The department of chemistry presents an address by Peter Kroll of the department of chemistry at the University of Texas.

The event begins at 4:10 p.m. in Neville Auditorium 3.

Wednesday, April 20: “A Daoist View of Ecology: The Co-existence of Dao and Wu and the Interrelationship between Humans and the Natural World”

The office of interdisciplinary programs presents an address by Chen Xia, a Fulbright Scholar at Brown University.

The event begins at 4:15 p.m. in Maginnes Hall 480.

Wednesday, April 20: “The Egalitarian Promise of Moravian Bethlehem”

The Town Hall lecture series presents an address by Seth Moglen, professor of English, speaking on “Some Surprising Truths about the Origins of Our City.” He will discuss the spiritual beliefs and social arrangements in Bethlehem during the 1740s and 1750s, as well as arguing that we live in the shadow of the city’s founders’ failed egalitarian promise.

The event begins at 7 p.m. at Bethlehem City Hall, 10 E. Church Street. It is sponsored by the City of Bethlehem and the South Side Initiative.

Thursday, April 21: Scott Belair ’69

The Association of Student Alumni (ASA) presents a talk by Scott Belair, founder of Urban Outfitters, Anthopologie, and Free People.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the STEPS Building auditorium.

Friday, April 22: “Culture, Communication, China: A Symposium”

The Global and Social Change Initiative presents a one-day symposium with addresses by Liu Kang, professor of Chinese Cultural Studies at Duke University, on “Globalization and Cultural Trends in China,” and by Zhao Yuezhi, Canada Research Chair in the Political Economy of Global Communication at Simon Fraser University, on “Communication in China: Political Economy, Power and Conflict.”
