One of the oldest pieces in Lehigh’s collection is a Chinese ceramic tripod vessel, dating from 2200 BCE to 1800 BCE. The earthenware vessel is made of sand and reddish clay and is from the Lower Xiajiadian Culture—one of the earliest Bronze Age cultures in the northern regions of China. The time period is known for distinctive pottery and metallurgy.
Lehigh owns five works by famed Spanish painter Pablo Picasso. Among them is an oil on canvas, an early portrait of Picasso’s sister, Lola. The piece dates to 1898-1899. There are also two lithographs and two etchings by Picasso in the collection.
