Another way to beat Lafayette

Lehigh alumni, current seniors and friends can get in the game for the 146th edition of the nation’s most-played football rivalry when the Mountain Hawks take on Lafayette on Saturday, Nov. 20.

The Lehigh-Lafayette Alumni Giving Challenge  pits alumni from each school against one another to see who can rally the most donors for their alma mater.

The premise is simple, says Bob Wolfenden, assistant vice president for alumni relations: “Bragging rights go to the institution with the greatest number of alumni who make an annual gift leading up to the game.”

Wolfenden says that gifts of any amount, to any designation, count toward the competition. The school with the most gifts from the Young Alumni Challenge during Spirit Week (Nov. 15-19) and via text messages on Nov. 20 will win the challenge. The winner will be announced during the fourth quarter of the game.

Here’s how it works:

Leading up to the game. Young alumni (graduates in the classes of 2001 to 2010) and current seniors can help beat Lafayette by making a gift online or by check from Nov. 15- 19. New gifts (which are defined as those made by people who have not donated since June 30, 2010) of any amount from young alumni and seniors count toward the competition. During the game. The competition is open to all Lehigh alumni and friends on game day Nov. 20.  Contributions can be made by texting the word “LEHIGH” and your name to 20222 on Nov. 20 up until the end of the third quarter. Each text is a $10 donation to Lehigh—$5 to financial aid and $5 to the Athletics Partnership. (You will see the $10 charge on your phone bill. Messaging and data rates may apply.) Every text message will count as a point for Lehigh, and participants can text more than once.
