Alumnus wins best paper award for article on wastewater treatment

Roderick Reardon, who earned a B.S. in chemical engineering in 1973 and an M.S. in civil engineering in 1977 from Lehigh, has received a $5,000 award for a paper he wrote that compares treatment processes for removing nitrogen from wastewater.
The award, for best paper published in a non-peer-reviewed journal, came from CDM, a worldwide consulting, engineering, construction, and operations firm that is headquartered in Massachusetts.
Reardon, a vice president and environmental engineer who works in CDM's Orlando, Fla., office, published his paper in October 2003 in Proceedings of the Water Environment Federal Annual Conference.
His paper was selected from more than 100 technical papers published by CDM employees in the past year.
Reardon has worked 27 years in the study, design, and operation of municipal wastewater treatment facilities. He is a member of the American Water Works Association, the International Water Association, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, and the Water Environment Federation.
Reardon is also a registered professional engineer and a diplomat in the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.
